Backing Up Your Database

Step 1: By clicking on 'File' then 'Back-up' will bring up the dialog box on the left. The 'Backup From' line will auto fill with the database you have open at the time, this will be the database that you want to backup so there will be no need to adjust this line.

Where you backup to (Store on) is up to you and will generally be determined by the reason for backing up. If you are backing up to protect your daily activity then you may choose to put the backup file onto a 'floopy disk' - if this is the case then you will need to change the 'Store on' line to read A:

You may be backing up to send the database to the Helpdesk, if this is the case then it is quicker to store the backed up file directly onto your C drive (this is your Hard Drive in your Computer), to store onto the hard drive then change the 'Store on' line to read C:

Step 2: Click onto the 'Backup' button and you will be told that 'This will close the current database - do you want to continue. Click 'YES'. You will now see some activity and when the database reopens behind the dialog box you're finished. Now X out of the Backup dialog or click 'Close'.

Step 6: After you click the 'Attach button you will be returned to the 'New Mail' dialog (see dia 3 above) where you will now see that you have a new 'Attachment line' with ParkIT.zip in the text area. You are now ready to send it. Click 'SEND'

Step 1: Connect to the Internet and go to your e-mail client (for these purposes I am using Outlook Express - but if you are using Outlook or Netscape then the process is esentially the same) and choose 'Creat Mail' to bring up a new mail dialog (dia 2).

Step 2: Address your mail to bonnie@rvmanagement as per the diagram. Then fill in the Subject e.g. 'Park IT DB from ABC Park'

Step 3: Now click onto the 'Attach' button to bring up the dialog box below.

Step 4: Use the 'Look in' dropdown box to choose the C: drive (this is where you saved the Park IT.zip.file from the previous exercise).
Step 5: Scroll to find the ParkIT.zip file, highlite it (click it) and then click 'Attach' see diagram below.
